Hair care tips in Monsoon / rainy season

Shampoo twice in a week

Shampoo twice in a week to maintain a healthy scalp and take a bath when you have been walking in the rain. As rainy water left on your scalp for longer time makes you feel itchy and your hair is even susceptible to bacterial or fungal infections and may even lead to dandruff. Washing your hair every day or too often can multiply the problems you already have with your hair.
Oil massage
Take time off from your busy schedule and grab a hair oil of your choice and give your hair strands a natural boost of moisture that can hydrate and revitalize the driest strands in brisk temperatures. Massage the oils till the scalp absorbs some and for deep conditioning you can even put on a plastic cap and/or a hot towel.

Avoid hair styling

Hair styling in damp monsoon weather can damage your hair. Tying up your hair tight is not advised in monsoon as it leads to trapping of rain water in your hair and the humidity makes the hair even more frizzy and limp. Try a loose bun, loose hair, loose side pony tail and protect your hair from humidity exposure. Keep your hair trimmed and short during the monsoons for easy cleaning and maintaining.

Buy waterproof jackets with hoodie

Whenever you step out make sure you carry a water-proof jacket with a hoodie along with you even if you feel it is not going to rain. The waterproof rain coats and jackets help you stay dry. many of them would not prefer weaning one. You can also check out some colorful umbrellas to show off your dress and experience the chilly rainy weather all your way.

Benefits of Dry Brushing for Skin

I’ve been dry brushing my skin for years, mostly because it feels great and make my skin softer, but there are other benefits as well:

·         Lymphatic Support: The lymphatic system is a major part of the body’s immune system. It is made up of organs and lymph nodes, ducts and vessels that transport lymph throughout the body. Many of these lymph vessels run just below the skin and proponents of dry brushing claim that brushing the skin regularly helps stimulate the normal lymph flow within the body and help the body detoxify itself naturally.
·         Exfoliation: This benefit is often noticed the first time a person dry brushes. The process of running a firm, natural bristled brush over the skin helps loosen and remove dead skin cells, naturally exfoliating skin. I noticed much softer skin in the first few days and weeks after I started dry brushing and my skin has stayed soft. Dry brushing is one of the simplest and most natural ways to exfoliate skin.
·         Clean Pores: The added benefit of exfoliating the skin is clearing oil, dirt and residue from the pores. Though it isn’t recommended to dry brush the face unless you have a special, more delicate brush, dry brushing helps improve pores on the rest of the body.
·         Cellulite Help: Though the evidence is anecdotal, I’ve found many accounts of people who claimed that regular dry brushing greatly helped their cellulite. I talked about this and my other cellulite remedies here. There isn’t much research to back the cellulite claims, but dry brushing feels great and makes skin softer, so there isn’t really any downside to trying it!
      ·       Increased Energy and Blood Flow: I wouldn’t recommend dry brushing at night because it tends to give me a rush of energy. One theory is that because it increases circulation, it also increases energy. Either way, dry brushing is part of my morning routine.
     ·      Listen up ladies: Increasing the circulation to the skin could possibly reduce the appearance of cellulite. Cellulite is toxic material accumulated in your body’s fat cells. So, rather than take drastic measures like liposuction, how about utilizing the dry skin brushing techniques to help break down unwanted toxins?
·         Dry body brushing helps shed dead skin cells (and encourages new cell renewal), which results in smoother and brighter skin. It can also help with any pesky ingrown hairs.
·         It assists in improving vascular blood circulation and lymphatic drainage. By releasing toxins, it encourages the body’s discharge of metabolic wastes so the body is able to run more effectively.
·         Dry skin brushing rejuvenates the nervous system by stimulating nerve endings in the skin (and it feels pretty great, too!).
  • It helps with muscle tone and gives you a more even distribution of fat deposits.
  • Dry skin brushing helps your skin to absorb nutrients by eliminating clogged pores.
  • And, in my experience, dry body brushing first thing in the morning can actually set up a perfect day! By doing something solely for yourself first thing in the morning, you can develop a beautiful follow-through effect, starting with a healthy breakfast - why ruin all the good work you just did

Beauty Uses of Baking Soda

Baking Soda can be used extensively for the below mentioned daily needs. Some of them are mentioned below

Deodorant
As you already know if you keep a box of the stuff in your fridge, baking soda has natural deodorizing properties, which makes it a great DIY natural deodorant. Just mix it with water until it makes a slightly moist, not runny, paste, and apply to your underarms to prevent sweat stains and body odor. You can also add cornstarch for even better wetness-absorbing ability.

TeethWhitening

Baking soda is a tried-and-true teeth whitener, which is good news for anyone who wants to lighten their teeth up a few shades without undergoing a serious dental treatment. 1 tablespoon baking soda, 5 drops hydrogen peroxide, and a few drops of water mixed into a small container until a consistent paste develops. Use a toothbrush to apply the solution evenly to your teeth, and let it sit for five minutes. Brush it off with normal toothpaste and rinse thoroughly with water. To see serious results, repeat the process once a week. “If you’re not satisfied with the results,” Dr. Emery continues, “leave the mixture on for 10 minutes at a time,” but no longer than that, “because you can get an uneven application, and your teeth maygetsensitive.”

Cuticle Care

If too many gel manicures have got your cuticles looking a little worse for the wear, a bit of baking soda mixed with warm water can set them right. Scrubbing your fingertips with the mixture will exfoliate dead, dry skin cells and leave you with smoother, healthier nail beds.

Blackhead Remover

A teaspoon of baking soda mixed with a cup of pure distilled water makes an excellent solution for blackheads. “This is what many professional estheticians use, “says esthetician Pearl Dworkin, “either with steam or with galvanic current prior to extractions. It helps draw out the blackheads and makes extractions come out very easily.” You can do this at home by first cleansing the skin, then mixing up the solution and holding your head over a basin of hot water with a towel over your head to help concentrate the heat and steam. Extractions should be done gently with fingers wrapped in cotton, never nails or fingertips.

  •    Keep a nail file in your handbag so that you are never tempted to rip a broken nail off
  •   Always file your nails in one direction only
  •  Buffing your nails will keep them lovely and smooth, but if your nails are thin and weak do not buff more than once a fortnight because it will wear them down
  • Before applying polish, clean with nail polish remover to remove nasty grime which will act as a resistant to the polish. Always use base and top coat
  • Massage moisturizing cuticle oil into the cuticles regularly in order to promote healthy nail growth. Sweet Almond Oil is particularly good for the cuticles
  • Push back your cuticles so that you can see the little half moon shaped white areas, making your nails appear longer. Do this after a hot bath when your skin is particularly soft
  • Always cut your toenails horizontally to prevent in-growing nails
